Fancy Saddle Shopping – County

Fancy Saddle Shopping – County

Last Friday evening I had a rep from County Saddlery come out to fit myself and Simon for a new saddle. The previous company I had out was CWD, and I don’t think you can get two saddles that are more polar opposites than County & CWD. My high level overview of comparing the two sales pitches would be: CWD – It’s technology! It’s French! It’s super kewl! Did I mention it’s French? County – This is a saddle. It is made…

Fancy Saddle Shopping – CWD

Fancy Saddle Shopping – CWD

As I mentioned last week, I’m in the market for a new saddle. One of my friends told me that she was going to live vicariously through my saddle shopping, which made me figure that it would be a decent process to blog about. Plus, I can’t write depressing broody content everyday… right? The first company I had come out to fit me and Simon was CWD. People seem to either love or hate the company, but I’m a big…

An Italian Problem

An Italian Problem

Guys, I don’t like my saddle. Though it fits Simon relatively well, I’ve never taken to my Prestige Roma Jump saddle. On the aesthetic side, I am not a huge fan of the leather. Even after having it for a year and a half, the leather still is just okay at best. Granted, I’m not the world’s best cleaner/oiler but this thing remains slick and stiff. It doesn’t like to soak conditioner in despite my best efforts and it scratches super…

The Easiest Saddle Fitting Ever

The Easiest Saddle Fitting Ever

When I wrote my 2015 goals, I mentioned that I wanted to confirm or deny Simon’s saddle fit this year.  It seemed like a huge task, because I wasn’t thrilled with the fitter I had used previously and basically bought my saddle on the internet site unseen by a tack store employee looking at a few pictures of Simon’s back.  Recipe for success, right? Luckily an awesome blog reader (thank you!) recommended another local fitter to me, so I happily…

The Saddle Saga Concludes

The Saddle Saga Concludes

I’ve spent about 48 hours ruminating over my new saddle, and I’ve officially decided to keep it.  Now that I’ve made that decision I’m going to slather it in conditioner and get that baby broken in as soon as possible… but I also figure I should blog about it. For those of you just checking in, I settled on the Prestige Roma Jump because it was in my price range, has a higher channel for wither clearance, and a flattish…

Saddle Temper Tantrum

Saddle Temper Tantrum

This post sponsored by the one giant “Fail Friday” that has been my February.  Onto March!  In like a lion!  Roar the suck away! Also, yesterday I had a temper tantrum.  Legit foot stomping, pissy, complaining, angry emails sending temper tantrum… over my saddle.  Sigh. Through the suck this month, I was looking forward to several things: cross country schooling (moved to March, but pony should be better by then so it’s all good), equestrian social media award winners (didn’t…

Saddle Woes & Waits

Saddle Woes & Waits

One of my “30 before I’m 30” items is getting a new saddle, but it wasn’t just because I like pretty new tack.  The fit on Simon’s saddle has gone from not ideal to pretty much abysmal. With his bulking up over the summer, the tree width is officially too narrow for his shoulders.  That’s causing the back to rock and move even more than previously.  We went from occasional rocking, to having his hair under the back panels being…

Not Enough Weekend

Not Enough Weekend

Ever have a great Saturday, and then a series of small but unfortunate events leaves you feeling grumpy on Sunday afternoon and even grumpier knowing Monday is just around the corner?  That’s how I feel right now. Yesterday I spent all day at the barn for the first time in forever, and it was lovely.  When I first got out, I jogged Simon and he was sound. Yay!  His hock had no swelling and was nice and cold, so I…
