Roman

My learning experience horse hauled off this morning to a new home in Colorado. He’ll be loved by really nice people and continue his path towards the hunter/jumper ring under a knowledgeable trainer. Although I’ve never bought or sold a horse sight unseen before, I feel good about his new family. I think he will be loved and cared for, which is as much as any horse can want out of life. I can’t really adequately express how relieved I…

My Thoroughbred Carousel

My Thoroughbred Carousel

For the past several months, horses have taken a huge backseat in my life. This was due to a variety of factors including traveling, weather, and working hard on my grad school applications. If I’m being honest, it’s also due to me needing a break. Buying Roman, although a huge learning experience, wasn’t what I thought it would be. Horses began to be a stress instead of a relief, so I got my trainer and my great barn friends to…

Thanks

Thanks

I spent the majority of my work day yesterday (don’t tell my boss!) responding to comments via email. There were so many sincere, thoughtful and amazing offers of help and support that I didn’t think a “Thanks!” comment left in response on the blog was enough. I’m still not done sending my replies, but am getting there. After work I went home to let the dogs out. I didn’t feel like riding, but pushed myself out to the barn anyway….

An Update on the Ponies

An Update on the Ponies

For a supposed horse blog, I sure haven’t been writing much about the horses lately. Mostly it’s because emotionally I’m not in a spot right now where I’m super into the horses. That sounds worse than it is, but before you picture my two tossed aside in a dusty field… I can assure you that they’re both fine. I ride Roman between two to three days a week, which is certainly less than I’m used to going to the barn but…

Some Cool Things That Happened Last Week

Some Cool Things That Happened Last Week

The weather has finally taken a turn in Texas. Instead of feeling like you’re walking around in someone’s hot breath all the time, the cool taste of fall is back in the air. I love that feeling. It makes me want to sit on my porch all evening and stretch my arms wide open into the chill and let my body begin again. Some people associate January as a time of fresh starts and new beginnings, but for me that’s…

#learningexperience

#learningexperience

I debated writing this post, but I figured people would see it on Facebook and then message me for an explanation. I’d prefer to skip the 20 questions part of this exercise, so I’ll address the elephant in the room here. I’m putting Roman up for sale. If you’ve been reading in-between the lines of the blog for the past few months, this won’t surprise you. I guess it surprises me a little, even though I’m the one making the decision….

Roman’s Lessons From Bootcamp

Roman’s Lessons From Bootcamp

Roman has been in training boot camp for a week. The weather isn’t making it 100% easy on us to get his schedule perfect, but we’re doing the best we can since the money tree hasn’t shaken its leaves and dropped a covered ring at my barn. My trainer has been doing the bulk of the riding. I’m allowed to show up and sit on my horse once he’s had several days of conversations about life. After the first week,…

Lost My Mojo?

Lost My Mojo?

I knew I would change after Tim died. I’ve blogged about it. I’ve thought about it at length and talked about it a little with friends. Despite all of those conversations, I can’t tell you exactly how I’ve changed in great detail. As we head into fall, I’ve begun to realize that these changes have affected my horse world. One of the ways I got through the worst of my grief was throwing myself into projects to distract myself from the…
