That Time I Stole a Pug

That Time I Stole a Pug

For reasons that escape me, I haven’t expressed much on this blog how obsessed I am with pugs. Let me catch you up to speed – I’m smitten with them. I follow a multitude of celebrity pugs on social media, the most notable being of course Doug the Pug. I also have a Doug the Pug calendar by my desk at work that one of my best friends got me for my birthday, because hey — my people know me well!…

Reading Round Up – January

Reading Round Up – January

I want to start a new segment on the blog called “Reading Roundup” where I’ll do a brief review/recommendation of the books I’ve read in the past month. Half the reason is that I want to keep myself on track with reading, and half is it’s easy content in a boring life without a million horse shows… win-win! Dear Mr. You by Mary-Louise Parker I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read Mary-Louise Parker’s memoir. I’d seen her as an…

DIY – Paint Your Own Brushes

DIY – Paint Your Own Brushes

It’s been a long time since I’ve done any kind of equestrian DIY kind of post, so I figured y’all were overdue for some craft action. Now though I’ve written a lot of DIY, I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m pretty half ass when it comes to detailed pictures and instructions. Often I will include important steps like, “Sew it all together.” Well folks, it’s a new year and I’m trying to be a better blogger. This…

Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park

I spent my New Years with old friends in the California desert. Joshua Tree reminded me a lot of Big Bend in Texas. It’s a surreal, almost alien like desert landscape. While Big Bend was red and mountainous, Joshua Tree was tan and filled with boulders. Both are beautiful. My itinerary in Joshua Tree consisted of hiking with my friends and hanging out at the house after. There’s really no night life to speak of in the desert towns near…

My Promise for the Next Four Years

My Promise for the Next Four Years

I didn’t march on Saturday. I had no excuse. The truth is, I’m pretty intimidated by that kind of situation and protest, which isn’t something I’m proud of. Instead of pushing those feelings down and joining what was a profound global movement with impressive numbers, I’m writing this blog today. This blog won’t be any where near as inspiring or powerful as the women’s march. It won’t be as well spoken or political as some of the things I’ve read on…

Mistakes I Made in 2016

Mistakes I Made in 2016

Last week in a bout of self reflection about the last year, I wrote about the things I did right in 2016. Because this is the internet, I know there was at least one person out there thinking, “Well isn’t she just a little high and mighty.” Don’t worry person – this post is for you! Though I’m proud of a lot of the things I did or attempted last year, there were certainly some areas that need improvement. Neglected…

San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo

I grew up watching Jack Hanna on TV showcasing all sorts of amazing animals from this legendary place called the San Diego Zoo. When I was younger, I was pretty sure that I’d grow up to be a marine biologist, zoologist or exotic vet… so I took all things animal pretty seriously. The San Diego Zoo was all over my favorite TV Channel, Animal Planet, as the be all end all zoo in North America. I didn’t know what wondrous creatures it held,…

Things I Did Right in 2016

Things I Did Right in 2016

I still have a lot of California adventures to share with y’all from my vacation over Christmas break, but I wanted to break up those posts with a more reflective variety of the past year and the upcoming one. I haven’t done any of my normal “end of year” posts since late 2014/early 2015, and I won’t be doing them this year either. When 2015 ended, I wanted nothing more than to shut the door on that tragic series of…
