Simon’s 2014 Christmas Wishlist

Simon’s 2014 Christmas Wishlist

The past two years (Read 2012 and 2013), Simon has grabbed the keyboard for me and written a guest post about his Christmas needs.  This year I let him borrow my iPad after a ride so he could yet again make his request. What Simonpants Wants, Needs, and Desperately Deserves for Christmas – 2014 Edition Likits Did you know that in the winter you have to stall in your stall SO MUCH MORE even though it is NOT COLD ouside!…

Pick Yourself Up

Pick Yourself Up

I’m calling “the slumps” over.  This is due to two reasons. One, I had an amazing private lesson last Thursday night.  It was one of those lessons where the individual attention leads to a big “Ah-ha” moment, which means that the lesson will last far, far long than the half hour I paid for.  Basically, I learned that I was both over and under communicating. See, we’ve pushed our flatwork to the next level recently.  Lots of trot work in…

The Owls Approve Blog Hop – History of the Horse

The Owls Approve Blog Hop – History of the Horse

I don’t usually do blog hops, but when I do it’s because we’re celebrating Bold Archer’s birthday! History of the Horse Before you met, where was your horse? Who bred him/her? What do you know about his sire and his dam? What do you know where he came from? Tell me about the time before he had a trainer. Simon was bred in the San Marcos area of Texas, which is just a bit south of Austin.  He is registered…

Afraid to be Hopeful

Afraid to be Hopeful

Even though my vacation was as relaxing as can be, life started back chaotic as soon as my first day back at work began.  Stress at work for Tim and I combined with some health scares from a family member made to an interesting back to reality day.  Everything should be fine, but moral of the story is take care of yourself and enjoy the things that make you happy! For better or worse, Simon makes me happy… so off…

Working On Our Trot Trot

Working On Our Trot Trot

I’ve been trying to push our flatwork up to the next level for a few reasons.  First, let me give you a brief synopsis of how I usually hack my horse. Wow you’re lazy today.  Well, lazy means I’m not getting run away with!  I can do lazy… I’ll call it “long and low”.  Well we’ve done a few laps now, I should do circles or leg yields or something.  That was moderately successful.  Those hard hard.  Let’s canter!  Two…

Simon’s Summer So Far

Simon’s Summer So Far

I’ve been writing on virtually anything but my horse lately, and I know you’re all dying to know the intense details of Sir Simon’s life right now. Let me tell you, it’s super riveting. He rounded out a busy May of showing and training with a nice fat vacation while it rained and I was out of town.  Usually I’ll schedule some training rides for the princess when I can’t get out, but I figured he worked hard and could use…

Appreciating What You Have Blog Hop

Appreciating What You Have Blog Hop

I love love love the Viva Carlos blog hop this week!  It’s especially topical since we all know how much horse showing can make you question everything about yourself including the quality and talent of your horse. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the Pros of our current ponies, whether you own them or just ride them in lessons. Simon has a lot of good qualities, and I probably don’t write about them on the blog as much as I…

Bending Line Bonanza

Bending Line Bonanza

This past weekend I asked my lovely husband if he would come to the barn for my lesson to take some video.  Since it had been a while since he stuffed Simon full of treats, he happily agreed.  Simon happily ate the treats, and it was okay because we had a pretty nice lesson. I was happy during the flat warm-up because Simon felt forward and pretty strong.  No tripping, no stiffness, no nonsense.  Our rides during the week had…
