I Get Knocked Down

I Get Knocked Down

Something light hearted today! At the show a few weeks ago, one of our green horses had a green horse moment at his first show and a good rider came off. That’s not really that unusual of a story, but the epic save she almost had is what makes it blog worthy. I got permission from this rider (who you can tell from the photos is an excellent sport) to share the photo series with you all. My favorite part…

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty

My “hump” day this week went a lot like Humpty Dumpty. I spent a lot of time trying to “put it back together again.” Not because I was sad or mourning or whatever, but it was just a really annoying, crappy day. Because the universe is awesome, this week at work has just been completely bananas. I’m not sure if my sad widow card is playing out at my job or if it’s just circumstance, but all the things are happening…

LOPE Benefit Show II

LOPE Benefit Show II

When we last left off, I had completed the hunter derby successfully but hadn’t yet fallen off.  When do I bust my bum?  Stay tuned! After the hunter derby we had what was supposed to be a brief break before the jumpers start, but it ended up being much longer.  The 2’0″ jumper division had a decent amount of riders, and they decided to let people take a break before their jump off… which made things take a lot longer….

Day 16 – Your Most Recent Fall

Day 16 – Your Most Recent Fall

A ton of these 30 day challenges are about falling, geez!  On the Simon lameness note – I am feeling less mopey.  I am not the only person in the world who has had to deal with a lame horse.  Not every horse that tears something making an ass of themselves in the pasture is going to be lame forever.  I’m a good horse mom, it’ll be fine. Consider this post some mental insight into the thoughts of Lauren before…

Day 13 – A Video of Your Worst Riding

Day 13 – A Video of Your Worst Riding

I never see any video of me riding and think “Wow, I look so good!  I should definitely become a professional.”  One might classify me as overly critical.  This probably contributes to the fact that I have virtually 0 video of me riding.  These videos are super old, so this is a combo “bad riding” and “blast from the past” video post. This is probably the worst video, and you’ll quickly see why. Ok, to be fair I don’t really consider this that…

Day 9 – Any Injuries That Occurred From Riding

Day 9 – Any Injuries That Occurred From Riding

Overall I’ve been really lucky on the riding front.  No broken bones, no significant time off, etc.  I cracked a few ribs once and hurt my hip in the process, but after about two weeks I was back to normal. There is one fall that has scarred me forever and gave me what I like to affectionately call my ass tumor. See that kind of pointed part of my ass?  I hope the cellulite doesn’t leave you blind, but I…

Day 5 – Your First Fall

Day 5 – Your First Fall

My first fall was not super eventful, but I remember it very clearly. I was 10, maybe 11, and was riding Duchess. Duchess was a rich red buckskin grade mare, and was pretty much a honey. She was a well trained and gentle school horse though, and didn’t contribute to this fall at all. I was just learning to trot, and it was maybe my 6th or so lesson before I was allowed to move from walking, steering, and two…

Day 4 – A Ride That Impacted Your Life

Day 4 – A Ride That Impacted Your Life

After I graduated from college, I was riding at a nice barn with a great trainer.  Most of the clients did A shows, and the ones who didn’t did C shows.  Basically, not a whole lot were in the schooling show circuit I had been doing for years… and I wanted to move up. To make a long story (I’m sure I’ll blog about it later) short, I got a fancy project horse and semi-retired my trusty gelding.  Beckett, a…
