Stalker Blog Hop

Stalker Blog Hop

I waffled about joining this blog hop, because the reality is I’d be happy to meet so many of you bloggers out there!  Seriously… we enjoy writing and the internet and our horses, those are three giant common interests right there so basically we’re sure to be best friends, right? So I decided to put my own spin on things and tell you who I do know and some fun “stalker” experiences I have had through blogging. As many of you…

Here Piggy Piggy

Here Piggy Piggy

Disclaimer – this post has nothing to do with pigs… or toes.  It’s probably a pretty stupid title now that I think about it.  What this post does have to do with is budgeting, which is something I fail at. This is how it tends to go down. OH MY GOD SELF!  I spend way too much money.  I can’t live this way.  I should probably have a freak out about it, and start doing all my shopping at the dollar…

Positivity Hat

Positivity Hat

Took time this weekend to repeat a mantra to myself – pout less!  With more reflecting at the vet’s diagnosis, it wasn’t too hard to do.  At this moment, I’ll be able to ride my horse in a week… which is no big thang.  For now, I’ll just take it one week at a time. After some family time with my mother in law Saturday (and a massive cleaning spree to get ready for her visit), I was a pretty…

Fishing Expedition

Fishing Expedition

Having a show horse is like 100 hobbies in one.  One of them?  Fishing.  Not for actual fish of course, but for a lameness diagnosis… because when your horse is one hot mess like mine there isn’t always a clear answer. We headed to the vet on Friday afternoon with the goal of getting an ultrasound to diagnosis a suspensory and some x-rays to see if he has kissing spines or not.  I took away a lot more information than…

Unpopular Blog Hop

Unpopular Blog Hop

This title is funny to me.  Instead of participating in an unpopular blog hop, I’m participating in a blog hop about unpopular opinions.  This week L. Williams‘ asks: What is 1 unpopular horsey opinion you have? It seems like I have all kinds of unpopular opinions, but the topical one for me right now is how I don’t think it’s wrong to use maintenance to keep a young horse with lameness going.  That’s kind of a weird statement, but let…

Things I Do When I’m Sad About My Horse

Things I Do When I’m Sad About My Horse

I have officially moved past utter despair (woe is me) and somewhat into acceptance and action plan mode.  This is a big improvement, and I can assure you that my husband is probably the most excited. Pre-acceptance, I usually cry and pout and think the worst for about the first 24 hours.  I know we all have our coping mechanisms for bad news – well here’s mine. Buy a bunch of dog toys online at Amazon for my non-lame furbabies….

What We Put on the Internet

What We Put on the Internet

I really thought about not posting any until I had more news, but this blog is really important to me.  I’ve had it pre-Simon and I will have it post-Simon (which is hopefully in like 20 years).  So, here’s another not exactly uplifting post. During my mega-pouting session last week, I did a lot of pondering on the subject of what I put on the internet. If I were to critique my blog, I would think that I’m a bit…

Still Downhearted

Still Downhearted

I had the vet out today, and the short story is that I still don’t have a firm answer and what I have is not excellent news. First we lunged Simon in the round pen, and he looked sound both directions.  Didn’t show any of the dropping behavior I described to her at the walk, trot or canter. Next they flexed his hock/stifle/suspensory.  He jogged out pretty well with the left, and slightly worse to the right but still not…

Product Review – Leather Honey Conditioner

Product Review – Leather Honey Conditioner

A while ago, I was contacted by the nice folks at Leather Honey to see if I could review their leather cleaner and conditioner.  It took me a while due to lack of barn time and general moping about the condition of my horse. Over the three day weekend I put on my big girl pants and stopped pouting, so I have part of the Leather Honey review for you!  I received both Leather Honey Conditioner and Leather Honey Cleaner…

Interested Parties Blog Hop

I can’t/shouldn’t dwell on the issues I talked about yesterday anymore for my mental sanity, so let’s think back on happier times. The first time I saw Simon, he was a gangly awkward young Thoroughbred.  My former trainer had recently brought him back from her western barn after a long layup, and she needed someone to give him some rides to see if he could fit into the lesson program.  Horseless at the time, I hopped on and rode a few…

Downhearted

Downhearted

My lack of showing isn’t the only reason my riding and blog enthusiasm is a bit dampened this summer.  Simon is NQR, and has been off/on for months. I mentioned in the spring how he was falling out in the hind occasionally during our rides.  Had the vet out twice, and on the second visit we injected his hocks.  That fixed the problem entirely… for about three weeks.  I’ve tried taking video to see if I can re-create it on…

Tryon Resort

Tryon Resort

Oh North Carolina, why must you get this most amazing facility years after I moved away? Have y’all heard about the biggest buzz in the east coast equestrian world?  Check out this video about the Tryon Equestrian Resort. I don’t even live anywhere near this, but I’m pretty excited. What do you think – could this be the next Wellington?
