Tim Helps Austin Pets Alive

This week I’ve been feeling very negative about this entire situation, and rightfully so. There are very few bright sides and silver linings here, but one thing that has been very comforting is getting notification of donations made to Austin Pets Alive in Tim’s memory.

Austin Pets Alive! is not your average animal shelter. We maintain comprehensive, innovative programs designed to save the animals most at risk for euthanasia.

A local Austin staple for animal lovers, APA is the go to place if you want to rescue a dog or cat here. They started by pulling animals off the kill list from our local shelter, and they (plus the awesome Austin rescue community) have helped Austin become a no kill city for rescue animals.

Through everyone’s kindness and support through this tragedy, over twelve donations were made in Tim’s memory to APA. In my mind, that means twelve animals saved (let’s just pretend this math works) and twelve animals rehomed to people who will love them.

Animals, especially rescued animals, love unconditionally. I’m sure the twelve adopters of these twelve dogs (yup, I’ve switched to dogs now) will have some rough times coming up, and because of Tim those animals will be able to provide their owners some comfort.

Or maybe they’ll just get some cool toys while they hang out in the shelter… either way, it’s all positive.

I think Tim would like that he helped some dogs, especially if they were his favorite – big, bully pitties. There is a lot of sadness, anger and regret in my life right now but the decision to name APA as a memorial charity is a source of peace.

I’ve got a stack of future thank you letters I will be writing, but it may be months before I get to them. Thank you to anyone who donated in Tim’s name. It’s a great way to honor a great person.

  1. When I went to their site to donate from my phone I didn’t find an easy way to put it in his name, so he may well have saved even more than you know about. Another small bright spot I hope.
