Thankful
When I was a kid, Thanksgiving was pretty much my favorite holiday. It was the start of the Christmas season, very predictable as far as food, family and fun. As I got older, Thanksgiving was a lot more up in the air until Tim and I started our own tradition of doing whatever the f we felt like. Sometimes we Thanksgiving by ourselves, sometimes with friends, sometimes with family… and sometimes we boycott it entirely by going on vacation.
So this year, we’re going on a short little cruise from Galveston to Cozumel. I’m looking forward to some vacation, sun and if I’m honest – a break from work and the barn and my dogs.
Even if I’m boycotting Thanksgiving this year, I’m still thankful. I have a lot to be grateful for.
Thankful for my husband, who is my best friend.
Thankful for my horse, who inspires me and gives me a reason to keep pressing on.
Thankful for my dogs, who make me laugh and provide me with unconditional love.
Thankful for my job, who pays for all the things and is a pretty damn decent place to work overall.
Thankful for my mom, who doesn’t say ‘wow that is too much money to spend on a hobby’ and cheers me on from across the country.
Thankful for my trainer, who doesn’t make me feel bad for my mistakes and assures me that I can do this.
Thankful for my barn friends, who give me a hug at a bad horse show or make me feel better when things are not so great.
Thankful for blog readers, who inspire me and motivate me to try to do more.
Thankful for non-barn friends, who say hilarious things like “you can dye your horse?!?” and think I’m awesome for jumping horses over sticks even if there are no blue ribbons attached.
Thankful I’m healthy and able to keep pursuing this crazy sport that I love.
Happy Thanksgiving! What are you thankful for this year?
