My Tree is an Ash Hole

My Tree is an Ash Hole

Home ownership being single has been a lot different than it was with him. For our first house, we took what one might call a lackadaisical approach. All of the paperwork, insurance and mortgage business was up to him and I just assumed things got done properly. Sometimes it did, and sometimes it didn’t. Lawn care was up to me, but I tended to focus on little projects versus the big picture. About once a quarter, I’d get inspired and…

Purge All the Things!

Purge All the Things!

When telling friends and family that I was moving to southern California for school, people’s first question was often what I was going to do with my horse. To me, Simon has been one of the easier obstacles. Once I get settled, I’ll look for a barn in CA and ship him in. Though there are still a lot of details to work out for Simon, I was more concerned with finding housing for me and the dogs than I…

Unrecognizable

Unrecognizable

I’ve been thinking a lot about change lately. This has been a general theme with me since legitimately everything in my life is different from a year and a half ago (only exception is my job), but my Facebook feed notified me this morning that it was a year ago that I had to let my sweet little BT dog go. Re-reading that post this morning, I thought about my life a year ago. I was living in an apartment shuffling…

Things That Happened

Things That Happened

It’s been a weird week over in Tex-ass. We’re getting slammed with rain again. Normally I’m not really anti-rain, but I have a pretty vested interest in riding right now and with no indoor the week forecast doesn’t look hopeful. Plus, when I woke up this morning my house seems to have succumbed to strange plumbing issues again. My shower went from 100% fine to gurgling and not draining within a 24 hour period. I won’t go into details since…

31 Years in 13 Feet

31 Years in 13 Feet

When I bought my house, I had relatively no idea what to do with it. There are options everywhere I look. Paint color choices and furniture to be decided. How much should I upgrade the kitchen? A lot of those answers are in progress, but I always knew there was one thing I wanted to do to the house – built a wall of shelves. I wanted to build a library nook in my long living room. Somewhere that I…

Unpacking and Unknowing

Unpacking and Unknowing

It took me over six weeks to unpack the boxes in my new house. I know what you’re going to say next. “I moved six years ago and I’m still not fully settled in!” When I say unpack, I literally mean take necessary life items out of boxes. I’m no where near being fully settled in. My office floor is covered in piles of paper, files, art projects and picture frames like fire ant nests spread out over a field. The…

Weekend by the Numbers

Weekend by the Numbers

Stephanie at Hand Gallop has these great little “weekend by the numbers” posts that I always enjoy reading. She somehow makes all the numbers even out, because she’s a rock star. They’re cute & well planned out posts. I, on the other hand, am all “I did things this weekend and there were numbers!” Expect no cuteness here. My Dad was visiting Austin-town this weekend and helped me on a ton of house stuff. He builds fancy custom homes and I assure…
