OTTB Spotlight – Viper

OTTB Spotlight – Viper

I’d like to introduce a new segment over here simply called the OTTB Spotlight!  I bet you could connect the dots based on the name alone, but I will be featuring different former track horses on this blog and what they’re doing in their current life.  Besides, who doesn’t love a good ‘ol OTTB?

Today’s spotlight is Viper, who you may recognize from some of my blog posts around here.  Viper is owned by an adult amateur at my barn, and is a really cool horse.  Here’s what his owner, Amy, has to say about her favorite OTTB!

What is his registered name?         Roping Kidd

Lineage?   I’m a bad owner.  I’ve never really looked into is lineage.  I just know that “Roping” is in his lineage.  Lauren the editor adds a link to his pedigree here for all of you TB pedigree geeks 😉  Roping kidd

Did your OTTB race? If so, how’d they do?  Yes, he did race and did pretty well winning more than $45,000 over his career.  I believe his winnings set the record for OTTBs at the barn.

What do you do now with him?       Jumping and dressage lessons

If your OTTB was a musician, who would they be?  Meatloaf, because the name is food related, he’s round-bodied, and has a great mane! (My daughter says Lenny Kravitz)

Your OTTB is on a desert horsey island. He/she can bring three items – what are they?       Hay, hay, and hay.

Your OTTB is deathly afraid of…      Pink planks

Your OTTB is really brave about…     Cats and dogs and the Expo Center (We show at the Expo center in Austin… and it is terrifying.  I mean, it terrifies me and I’m a human but that’s a whole different post)

If your OTTB could change one thing about his environment or training, what would it be?   His rider’s riding schedule

How would your OTTB introduce themselves to a new herd of horses?       Aggressively, lots of pony antics.  And bites.  And rearing.  Ask Leo and Pegasus and Keller. (This is true.  There may or may not be a bite mark on Keller’s girth area that matches Viper’s dental records…)

And finally, your OTTB makes you proud every day because…        He works really hard and I can tell that he uses his mind.  But most of all, he has helped me become a better, more confident rider. And he’s mine!

Thanks Amy and Viper!  Want to submit your OTTB to be featured on this blog? e-mail me answers to this set of interview questions and some pictures to be featured, and maybe next time you check She Moved to Texas your horse will be featured as the OTTB Spotlight of the week!

  2. I forgot to mention, he was “Viper” when I bought him. I have no idea where that name originated or why. Thanks for the spotlight, Lauren.

  3. What a great blog idea!!! Looking forward to seeing more of these. Maybe I’ll submit Dancer after I get to know him a little better 🙂
