Though we all know I’m a hunter/jumper girl, I appreciate pretty much any kind of horse show with quality horses and riders. So when my local fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC hosted a major dressage show several years ago – I checked it out. I really think hunter/jumper shows could do with a few more flags in the background. It makes for a nice photo backdrop! Also, how do you dressage riders get your boots so shiny? Dude, seriously. How?
Like Laura from The Roany Pony, I have a weeee bit of an Instagram problem. I attract a lot of twelve-year-old girls to my instagram page because I publish a lot of pictures of ponies. A lot. of pictures. of ponies. Non-horsey friends think I may be borderline insane. I visit my friend in Wellington, FL every year and stay at the luxurious farm she works at located in Grand Prix Village… but that’s not her only residence throughout the year. Years ago when I lived in New England, I visited the farm’s summer location in Saratoga, NY. Saratoga is a cool, artsy little town with a lot of horse history and the farm is not too shabby either!
I recently had a discussion with some folks about the worst “guilty pleasure” movie you’ve ever seen. For me this is probably almost every horse movie ever made. The only better thing than showing at our local Summer Circuit is hanging out with barn friends and taking pictures all day. Once upon a time I was a poor college kid (or recently out of college) with a little equine photography business, and I took my first paying farm call. The owner wanted some pictures of her saddleseat bred Arabians trotting liberty for a sales ad.
