Stepping Down to Move Forward

Stepping Down to Move Forward

When my husband took riding lesson (oh so briefly), he got very frustrated that riding wasn’t a linear progression sport.  I basically said “duh!” and expressed that it’s often one step forward two steps back… or at least feels that way. Yet, I forgot my own advice recently. This winter has been rough on us for riding consistency.  Not many barns in Texas have an indoor, and that includes us.  We’ve had tons of rain lately, and I’ve been lucky…

The Great Jumper Braid Debate

The Great Jumper Braid Debate

Okay, so this debate might not be all that “great”.  With WEF starting and me not going this year, I spent some time looking through my photos from WEF years past.  That’s when I realized that jumper braids seem to fall into two categories these days. We have the traditional button braids. And what I officially the “sticky uppy” braids. Both are almost always tight and neatly done, but I just can’t get behind the sticky uppy braids.  To me, there is…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

First off, thanks everyone for their encouraging comments yesterday.  I didn’t get a chance to reply individually to all of them (crazy trying to get ready for vacation and work and life!), but I really appreciate all the support.  I am feeling much better about all this!  Now, back to day two of the show. Sunday morning rolled in, and I wasn’t exactly feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.  My throat hurt, my head hurt, I was nauseous from worry and…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

I have both a ton to say about this show, and nothing at all.  Luckily (or not so luckily) for you, I’ll write out the ton I have to say in two parts.  For those of you who want the cliff notes, I have both a pessimistic and an optimistic version. Pessimistic:  I spent a decent amount of money to go to my year end show, and kinda sucked. Optimistic:  I had one of those ‘learning experience’ horse shows that…

Milestone Accomplished!

Milestone Accomplished!

I’ve been having a lot of fun traveling and visiting one of my very best friends this weekend, but I wanted to share something super exciting from Thursday night’s lesson. I jumped Simon 3’3″ ish! I say ish because the hole is a little more like 3’2″ haha but still. We worked on gymnastics which are usually a bit anxiety filled for us but this time the strides were set a but easy and Simon was super relaxed and going…

Going to Baby Jumper Land?

Going to Baby Jumper Land?

True blogger confessions time: recently I’ve become aware that I had grossly over estimated my abilities as a rider.  See, I’ve been a hunter gal all my life (even little local stuff.. still counts) and did one jumper show with moderate success.  Plus, my horse is a little bit awesome… when he’s sound.  Therefore, I’m obviously ready to make the switch full time to little jumper, right? Yeah, no.  So the jumpers are much harder and I have a lot to…

LOPE Benefit Show II

LOPE Benefit Show II

When we last left off, I had completed the hunter derby successfully but hadn’t yet fallen off.  When do I bust my bum?  Stay tuned! After the hunter derby we had what was supposed to be a brief break before the jumpers start, but it ended up being much longer.  The 2’0″ jumper division had a decent amount of riders, and they decided to let people take a break before their jump off… which made things take a lot longer….

Jumper Debut – Sunday

Jumper Debut – Sunday

The last morning of the horse show, I leisurely arrived at the show grounds again (love a “will not start before 9:00am class!) and opted not to lunge since it was pouring rain.  He had worked pretty hard the day before, and I didn’t anticipate any shenanigans. Since I felt so brave over the 2’6″ jumpers the day before, I briefly thought about adding a 2’9″ class to end the weekend on a challenge.  Sunday I decided against this for…
