CTHJA Manor March 1st

CTHJA Manor March 1st

Even though I decided to cancel my plans to show in March, I’m a horse show addict and I usually can’t stay away.  I headed out early to watch our hunters go, planning to ride Simon during lunch before the jumpers and then come back to the horse show to watch and photograph the jumpers in the afternoon.  Of course, we know how horse show schedules go and I ended up staying all day and getting properly sunburnt. The morning…

WEF 2014 Booked!

WEF 2014 Booked!

Life has been a struggle bus so far (more on that tomorrow), which is why I’m uber excited about my trip to Wellington this year! I’m going a tad bit earlier than normal, for week 10 instead of week 12.  While this means that the classes going on won’t be quite as spectacular, it’s still the best place to visit for any hunter/jumper enthusiast… and I get to hang out with one of my best buddies! Even though my trip…

In Which Simon’s Mom Proves She’s an Amateur

In Which Simon’s Mom Proves She’s an Amateur

I kept a bit quiet about it beforehand, but Simon and I went adventuring to a small hunter/jumper schooling show with Jen and Paddington Bear this past Saturday.  I’ll be 100% honest and partially wanted to go because I figured it would be a small show and we could win pretty ribbons.  Yup, I’m vain and shallow at times… sue me!  🙂  Because I had this thought there ended up being tons of kiddos in our division, go figure! Of…

CTHJA Year End – Sunday

CTHJA Year End – Sunday

Sunday was the second and final day of the horse show… also, the best day! I woke up with an agenda that terrified me – show a 2’6″ division for the first time in my life. I know for a lot of seasoned horse showers, this isn’t a big deal. People at my barn tell me that it’s not a big deal. My horse still practically canters over the 2’6″… but for me, it’s a really big deal. It’s the…

So You Want to Go to a Hunter Show?

So You Want to Go to a Hunter Show?

I’ve been told by an eventing friend that hunter/jumper shows are a foreign world and leave her feeling very confused.  It’s hard for me to see that since I’ve only been to hunter/jumper and open shows, but after reading some blogs lately about people feeling frustrated to some degree after attending a hunter/jumper show I thought I’d give my two cents.  It may or may not be helpful, and I’m sure I’ve missed something so if my fellow hunter/jumper enthusiasts…

Can’t Win Them All

Can’t Win Them All

The show this past Saturday was one of those that I will record as another good learning experience and miles for my green horse.  It wasn’t a disaster, but it wasn’t stellar.  I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a bit disappointing, but that’s horse showing! This was the 3rd time we’ve shown at this facility (2nd time this year) and as one day shows usually go, the schedule is a little stressing for Simon.  You may remember how…

Simon’s Thoughts on Flat Classes

Simon’s Thoughts on Flat Classes

After four beautiful rounds of jumping this past weekend, my trainer informed me that I needed to do the under saddle classes as well. Simon and I hate flatting. People say that it’s the race horse in him, but he never really raced and the truth is he’s almost as bad schooling at home as he is in the ring. I just don’t think he’s quite figured out what under saddle classes are all about.

Never Give Up

Never Give Up

My goal for this show was to have a calmer Simon (and a calmer me!) throughout the entire experience, and I am thrilled to say that we blew past that goal and ended up reserve champion in the 2’3″ Equitation!  Wut wut! That’s the high level overview.  If you want to skip the rest of the words of this post and just look at pretty pictures, that’s totally fine by me 🙂 We’ll start with schooling on Friday.  I headed over…
