Tryon Resort

Tryon Resort

Oh North Carolina, why must you get this most amazing facility years after I moved away? Have y’all heard about the biggest buzz in the east coast equestrian world?  Check out this video about the Tryon Equestrian Resort. I don’t even live anywhere near this, but I’m pretty excited. What do you think – could this be the next Wellington?

Jumper Debut – Sunday

Jumper Debut – Sunday

The last morning of the horse show, I leisurely arrived at the show grounds again (love a “will not start before 9:00am class!) and opted not to lunge since it was pouring rain.  He had worked pretty hard the day before, and I didn’t anticipate any shenanigans. Since I felt so brave over the 2’6″ jumpers the day before, I briefly thought about adding a 2’9″ class to end the weekend on a challenge.  Sunday I decided against this for…

Jumper Debut – Saturday 2’6″ Jumpers

Jumper Debut – Saturday 2’6″ Jumpers

After a brief break for Simon to eat some hay and me to change his bit back to our normal setup, we were on again for the 2’6″ jumpers. Our first course was the same as my previous 2’3″ class, so I didn’t have to do any more memorization (score!).  Waiting for our round I was super relaxed… which is a big deal for horse show nerves me.  Therefore, Simon was also super relaxed.  None of the jumps looked big to…

Slight Change of Plans

Slight Change of Plans

Well not really a change of plans, more an experiment in the planning department.   See it’s no secret that I love the hunters.  I love the perfection.  I love the outfits.  I love the overall goal. My horse jumps cute and has potential as a hunter, even with some obstacles (both his and mine) we’re currently working through. So I do love the hunters, and if I had to pick my ideal goal for Simon it would be to…

Easter Weekend Show – Sunday

Easter Weekend Show – Sunday

Saturday night I drank one glass of wine, had bread and cheese and about 5 bites of sorbet before I passed out at 10:30pm.  A good night’s sleep helps a lot, and I drove to the show early Sunday morning determined to have a better attitude. Of course, that better attitude didn’t include being nervous for my first ever medal class. The 2’6″ Medal runs first thing with no warm-up.  I could have gotten up super early to school the fences…

Easter Weekend Show – Saturday

Easter Weekend Show – Saturday

I know my instagram was suspiciously quiet over the weekend and I’m sure lots of folks are looking for a show update.  I’ll write one post for each day, but if you are looking for the overall synopsis here goes: I came into this show with a lot of hope (read: unrealistic expectations) and I’m a very passionate person (read: extremely competitive).  My horse and I stepped up a division and went from doing the adds to doing the strides, and there…

Show Prep

Show Prep

More than anything, my way to get ready for a show is methodical planning over a series of days so I don’t feel like too rushed the night before.  Me feeling rushed is a sure fire way for my show nerves to take over, and I really do a lot of work to keep those bad boys away. Monday was quite the stormy day here in Austin, so I sewed new snaps on a show shirt in order to revive…

Braiding for Local Shows?

Braiding for Local Shows?

First off, thanks everyone to your kind words about my little freak out post yesterday.  I am feeling better about the situation, but still not great. Trying to tell myself that just because my dogs no longer fit into the family model they used to, they can still be happy and healthy creatures for the rest of their lives.  Not there yet, but getting there. Today I am genuinely curious about a topic I love – braiding.  Specifically hunter braids,…
