Fugly Before Flawless
My name is Lauren and I can’t word today. Tomorrow isn’t looking good either, so let’s look at pictures of Simon.
As I may have mentioned, Simon and I will be returning to the hunter ring for (at least) the first show of the year…which is in about three weeks. I doubt this move will shock the equestrian world, since it’s not like we were exactly campaigning for Rio, but right now I am enjoying work on polish and relaxation. Sometimes, we’re pretty successful.

Other times… not so much.

Here’s the thing about hunters – I get my easy to remember courses and deep corners, but I also have to be straight and consistent and do lead changes.

Do you know how hard it is to go straight?

Or keep a consistent pace (especially when your horse occasionally INSISTS on adding)?

We don’t even need to talk about lead changes.

The overall story is, things are definitely getting better. Sometimes I have a whole line where I settle in front of the jump, float my reins and enjoy my lovely horse.

… and then this happens.

Oh well. We’re a work in progress.

We’re all a work in progress. The good the bad and the ugly! If we were perfect we wouldn’t be amateurs!
Truth!!
yessss this 🙂
With that outfit on, you can do whatever you want and look good! So snazzy.
Agreed! That shirt color is gorgeous! You look great!
I love that you always post the good, the bad, and the ugly. I wish so much that I was able to have such good photo evidence of my rides! You gotta knock the rust off somehow, and I think you guys will be back in fine form soon enough:)
Most of those pictures are f-a-n-c-y! You guys are doing to do great!
Even where things are a little funny though, your position generally looks pretty solid, regardless of what is happening under you!
He looks amazing though, seriously! Work in progress is better than no progress. Doing a swell job
You both look so solid, even if every step isn’t perfect. And boy, Simon is a HUNK! Lookit all them rippling muscles!
Love your green breeches! You’re doing great up there. Fear not, even the pros are fugly a lot of the time. And Simon is so adorable I can’t even stand it.
But Simon is a hunk and your ROOTD is on point! Plus, your fugly isn’t scary and your flawless is fucking beautiful !!
We are ALL works in progress! And I’m super jelz of your green breeches. Love them.
Simon looks a lot like Holly over jumps, not a snapper. It means they can look perfectly graceful as a round but good grief have fun getting good pics, especially over the little stuff. Hunters is hard to sit and make you both look pretty over jumps. I think you guys will do great.
Hey, practice makes perfect, right!? Looks like you’re on the right track, to me! Your horse looks fab, though. So you got that part down;)
ha going straight isn’t really a thing we do either (nor are lead changes, for that matter!). that outfit is killer tho and Simon looks shiny and bright and happy. should be a good time!!!
The 7th picture down = majestic AF! Can’t wait to hear about your return to the hunter ring.
You guys look amazing even when it isn’t perfect. Simon is seriously gorgeous.
You may be a work in progress, but you are looking fabulous while doing it!
If we were perfect- what fun would that be? There would be nothing to work on, no improvements to be made and no reason to try to fix anything. There would also be nothing to laugh at ourselves for. Screw that. Sounds pretty boring if you ask me.
Simon is looking exceptionally handsome, even by Simon standards!
Straightness is a lot harder than people think!!
We’re all a work in progress, even professional riders 😉
Yep this is why I am stilllllll taking lessons 🙂
I would like to order a sign for my office door that says, “Sorry, I can’t word today.” XD Priceless. But that’s ok, because that is one sexy horse, you guys look great, I have activity envy (stupid monsoon season, GO AWAY!).
Love that outfit! Those green breeches are so classy
