San Antonio Charity – Saturday

San Antonio Charity – Saturday

If you follow my personal Facebook or blog instagram, you probably already know that I had a great show.  In case you don’t… I had a great show.  Great great great.  Feel like a million bucks great. My goals going in were to have a confidence booster for me and to give Simon a show where he felt like a rock star for being a good pony.  I can’t speak for Simon, but I feel like a rock star too and…

2014 Show Season Wrap Up

2014 Show Season Wrap Up

Honestly alert – I am feeling pretty bummed about this year’s show season.  A lot of that is because we ended on a not-so-amazing note, but what readers don’t know about are the goals and pressure I had put on myself this year.  Why?  I don’t know.  It’s not like I thought my horse would magically get lead changes or that I would mysteriously become an amazing rider… I didn’t.  I did want to have a shot at qualifying for…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

First off, thanks everyone for their encouraging comments yesterday.  I didn’t get a chance to reply individually to all of them (crazy trying to get ready for vacation and work and life!), but I really appreciate all the support.  I am feeling much better about all this!  Now, back to day two of the show. Sunday morning rolled in, and I wasn’t exactly feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.  My throat hurt, my head hurt, I was nauseous from worry and…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

I have both a ton to say about this show, and nothing at all.  Luckily (or not so luckily) for you, I’ll write out the ton I have to say in two parts.  For those of you who want the cliff notes, I have both a pessimistic and an optimistic version. Pessimistic:  I spent a decent amount of money to go to my year end show, and kinda sucked. Optimistic:  I had one of those ‘learning experience’ horse shows that…

LOPE Benefit Show II

LOPE Benefit Show II

When we last left off, I had completed the hunter derby successfully but hadn’t yet fallen off.  When do I bust my bum?  Stay tuned! After the hunter derby we had what was supposed to be a brief break before the jumpers start, but it ended up being much longer.  The 2’0″ jumper division had a decent amount of riders, and they decided to let people take a break before their jump off… which made things take a lot longer….

LOPE Benefit Show I

LOPE Benefit Show I

There is too much to tell about my fun day at the LOPE Benefit show!  Instead of writing a novel, I’ll break it up into chunks.  For those of you who like the cliff notes, here they are: I was ridiculously over dressed and wore a shadbelly Had some of my personal best riding over fences (in my opinion) NECK RIBBONS I fell off! Now, the nitty gritty details! 7:45am was the first posted ride time for our hunter/jumper gals…

Elvis and the Versatility Class

Elvis and the Versatility Class

In certain open shows in North Carolina (and probably elsewhere), there is such a thing as a Versatility Class… and it is awesome.  Rules vary per show, but the format is always as follows: One horse & rider combination for roughly four classes with major tack changes back and forth.  The horse & rider must stay in the ring for tack changes, and can have 1-2 helpers.  The helpers stand at the edge of the ring while the classes are…

Jumper Debut – Sunday

Jumper Debut – Sunday

The last morning of the horse show, I leisurely arrived at the show grounds again (love a “will not start before 9:00am class!) and opted not to lunge since it was pouring rain.  He had worked pretty hard the day before, and I didn’t anticipate any shenanigans. Since I felt so brave over the 2’6″ jumpers the day before, I briefly thought about adding a 2’9″ class to end the weekend on a challenge.  Sunday I decided against this for…
