2014 Goals Review

2014 Goals Review

There seems to be a bit of a “I didn’t quite hit my goals” this year epidemic in the blog-o-sphere.  Add me to that club for sure. Before going over these in detail, I knew that there was the potential for me to get bummed.  However, L. Williams told me that we should never reach all of our goals… that means we’re not reaching high enough.  This year, I reached pretty high. 2013 gave me the confidence that I had a…

2014 Year in Review

2014 Year in Review

I am hesitant to say that this year sucked, because no one died and no one lost their job and everyone is healthy and relatively happy… so I won’t say it sucked.  I have a lot to be thankful for, but this was not my most favorite year ever. January Simon and I pick up from where we left off after your success in the year end show.  I stop trying to do crazy advanced things with flatwork, and keep…

2014 Show Season Wrap Up

2014 Show Season Wrap Up

Honestly alert – I am feeling pretty bummed about this year’s show season.  A lot of that is because we ended on a not-so-amazing note, but what readers don’t know about are the goals and pressure I had put on myself this year.  Why?  I don’t know.  It’s not like I thought my horse would magically get lead changes or that I would mysteriously become an amazing rider… I didn’t.  I did want to have a shot at qualifying for…

And Thus Begins My 30’s

And Thus Begins My 30’s

It’s my burfday.  I’m 30. I kinda thought I’d have a lot more about life figured out by now, but I don’t.  That being said, I have more figured out than last year and I’m slightly less worried about the rest.  Progress?  Maturity?  Maybe something. Either way, I did a 30 before 30 challenge on this day a year ago.  Time to officially review how I did! Note – if you want to skip the boring list and go straight to my…

Pick Yourself Up

Pick Yourself Up

I’m calling “the slumps” over.  This is due to two reasons. One, I had an amazing private lesson last Thursday night.  It was one of those lessons where the individual attention leads to a big “Ah-ha” moment, which means that the lesson will last far, far long than the half hour I paid for.  Basically, I learned that I was both over and under communicating. See, we’ve pushed our flatwork to the next level recently.  Lots of trot work in…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Sunday

First off, thanks everyone for their encouraging comments yesterday.  I didn’t get a chance to reply individually to all of them (crazy trying to get ready for vacation and work and life!), but I really appreciate all the support.  I am feeling much better about all this!  Now, back to day two of the show. Sunday morning rolled in, and I wasn’t exactly feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed.  My throat hurt, my head hurt, I was nauseous from worry and…

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

2014 CTHJA Year End – Saturday

I have both a ton to say about this show, and nothing at all.  Luckily (or not so luckily) for you, I’ll write out the ton I have to say in two parts.  For those of you who want the cliff notes, I have both a pessimistic and an optimistic version. Pessimistic:  I spent a decent amount of money to go to my year end show, and kinda sucked. Optimistic:  I had one of those ‘learning experience’ horse shows that…

Elvis Comes Full Circle

Elvis Comes Full Circle

Elvis was my best friend for seven years, and made a lot of my dreams come true.  Sometimes I regret selling him, and other times I realize it was a good decision for both of us. When I see pictures of him on Facebook like the one below, I think it was a good decision. This is an acquaintance’s daughter who’s learning to ride on Elvis.  She’s 4.5 and he’s 21.  Her mom reports that Elvis just follows her around…
