Interested Parties Blog Hop

I can’t/shouldn’t dwell on the issues I talked about yesterday anymore for my mental sanity, so let’s think back on happier times. The first time I saw Simon, he was a gangly awkward young Thoroughbred.  My former trainer had recently brought him back from her western barn after a long layup, and she needed someone to give him some rides to see if he could fit into the lesson program.  Horseless at the time, I hopped on and rode a few…

Downhearted

Downhearted

My lack of showing isn’t the only reason my riding and blog enthusiasm is a bit dampened this summer.  Simon is NQR, and has been off/on for months. I mentioned in the spring how he was falling out in the hind occasionally during our rides.  Had the vet out twice, and on the second visit we injected his hocks.  That fixed the problem entirely… for about three weeks.  I’ve tried taking video to see if I can re-create it on…

Tryon Resort

Tryon Resort

Oh North Carolina, why must you get this most amazing facility years after I moved away? Have y’all heard about the biggest buzz in the east coast equestrian world?  Check out this video about the Tryon Equestrian Resort. I don’t even live anywhere near this, but I’m pretty excited. What do you think – could this be the next Wellington?

The Family Palomino

The Family Palomino

I spent the weekend with my Dad while he visited in Austin.  While this was fun for me, it didn’t leave much time for the barn.  It did however remind me of a story y’all might enjoy.  If you asked either of my parents, they would say they had no idea where I got my love for horses from since neither of them are enthusiasts.  Even though this is true, it’s not 100% accurate.  Long before I was born, there…

My Job at the Cult – Managing Mojo

My Job at the Cult – Managing Mojo

Previously, I told y’all about the huddle and the DISC profiles from the craziest job I’ve ever had. Those had some cringeworthy moments for me and I’m sure for y’all as well… but the behind the scenes shittiness that went out beat anything I’ve ever experienced.  Let me tell you more! At the cult, people tended to get promoted quickly.  Promotions may or may not have title changes, but they always had an increase in responsibility and virtually never a pay…

My “Freebie”

My “Freebie”

Last month, I wrote a post about free horses in Texas where I was a bit dumbfounded about people wanting everything for nothing or throwing horses away that were no longer valuable.  I received the following comment from Liz on that post: I think it would be really neat if you did a “part II” response post to this one where you have tallied the # hours you rode/trainer rode, # hours at barn not riding, # vet visits, #…

So That Happened

So That Happened

I joked with a barn friend last night that I am turning Simon into a trick pony… that may or may not be true.  Last night when motivation to do proper flat work was at an all time low, I got out a stirrup leather and put it around his neck.  My theory?  See how he would do riding from just a neck strap. We walk, trot, cantered pretty much without touching the reins at all.  He was a little…

Pascale the Not so Puppy Update

Pascale the Not so Puppy Update

There’s been a lot of dog drama in my house in the past year, and because of that my dog blogging has been pretty much focused on my ongoing spaniel drama.  Today we’ve got to change that and give y’all and update on little miss Pascale, the puppy that got dropped off at my barn last September. I’m not sure if I ever mentioned this, but when we took her to the first vet appointment we were told that she would…
