Saturday Simon Update (With Paddington Cameo)

Saturday Simon Update (With Paddington Cameo)

Earlier this week we talked about Simon pants, I was a bit meh.  I basically made the decision to do some easy (read: inexpensive) things to further try and fix our problem, try to stop being so neurotic about it and essentially ride him until it goes away or gets bad enough to really dive in and diagnose. Five days later, I am feeling pretty optimistic.  First in my plan of attack was to get Jen to ride him to get her…

One Week Post Injections Meh Fest

One Week Post Injections Meh Fest

Confounding horse continues to be confounding… but then again what else is new?  Let me dive into some more detail. Simon finished his 7 day rest and 2g bute/day on Friday.  On Saturday morning, I headed out to the barn to give him a light walk/trot hack and see how he is.  Now I realize he will still have some bute in his system at that point, so I expected him to feel amazing. Overall, he did.  Huge shoulder swing….

Downhearted

Downhearted

My lack of showing isn’t the only reason my riding and blog enthusiasm is a bit dampened this summer.  Simon is NQR, and has been off/on for months. I mentioned in the spring how he was falling out in the hind occasionally during our rides.  Had the vet out twice, and on the second visit we injected his hocks.  That fixed the problem entirely… for about three weeks.  I’ve tried taking video to see if I can re-create it on…

Seeing the Light

Seeing the Light

On the dog and horse front, I may be starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Maybe.  This morning I’m feeling the most optimistic I have in weeks, so we’ll take that happy momentum and roll with it regardless of what ends up happening. Today, let’s talk about Simon.  I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read my post on his NQR’ness and offering their insight.  We left it with seeing how booting…

Keep on Keeping On

Keep on Keeping On

Simon is still not quite right.  I’m just a few bad rides away from the crazy train… hell who am I kidding – I’m probably already on the crazy train.  I may have been born on the cray train.  Here’s the timeline: Thursday, January 30th: Simon comes out stiff, works out of it Friday, January 31st: Simon comes out stiffer, works out of it but I give him the night off Saturday, February 1st: Simon looks great in the AM,…

The Not-So Weirdness

The Not-So Weirdness

When you think your horse has a broken back, it’s bound to be not much of anything. So I had the vet out yesterday afternoon and was prepared to do hock injections and hoped my horse didn’t have a rare degenerative spinal disease. You know, the normal fears. When the vet called, he said that he lunged Simon on the hard ground and the ring.  He was ouchy on the hard ground, and responded positively to hoof testers in his…

The Weirdness

The Weirdness

Even though we had a fun weekend at the schooling show, something is nagging me in the back of my head – Simon is NQR.  Here’s the timeline: Wednesday: Trainer jumps Simon 2’9″ – 3′ in training ride.  She says he is awesome. Thursday: I ride Simon in a lesson. He starts off feeling a little weird every now and then in the hind, but not consistent. By the time I get the words out of my mouth for trainer…
