Case of the Mondays

Case of the Mondays

Productive weekends have not been my strong suit lately. For whatever reason, I’m overcome with the need to cocoon myself in my house and have lots of me time. Usually I need quiet/me time for a few days out of the month, but lately I can’t stop craving it. Not sure what’s up – maybe just the winter blues. On Saturday I made it out to the barn to see Simon and have a make-up lesson from Monday. I rode…

Adventures in Stall Rest

Adventures in Stall Rest

Only 3 and a half weeks of stall rest left… boy is that going to fly by. I haven’t had the heart to tell Simon that even when we hit month 2 of rehab, he only gets to go on 5 minute walks a day and still no turnout. My baby boy is not taking all this extremely well. Simon is a horse that loves to work and be with people, so when I’m out at the farm he seems…

The Lame Game

The Lame Game

Simon pants went to the vet this morning, and I have more answers than before but not a ton.  They did flextions first, and the lameness in his right hock did not get worse with flextions.  My vet immediately thought it was a soft tissue injury, probably from him slipping or acting like a fool in the pasture.  It’s very high on his hock, higher than upper suspensory.  I asked if the vet thought an ultrasound was needed, and she…

Not Enough Weekend

Not Enough Weekend

Ever have a great Saturday, and then a series of small but unfortunate events leaves you feeling grumpy on Sunday afternoon and even grumpier knowing Monday is just around the corner?  That’s how I feel right now. Yesterday I spent all day at the barn for the first time in forever, and it was lovely.  When I first got out, I jogged Simon and he was sound. Yay!  His hock had no swelling and was nice and cold, so I…

Day 11 – Find a Horse for Sale Online That You Would Want to Buy

Day 11 – Find a Horse for Sale Online That You Would Want to Buy

Trekked out to the barn in what we Austinites call miserable weather (high 30’s, ahhh!) to check on Simon pants.  He jogged out much sounder, but still NQR.  I had asked one of the teenagers at the barn to cold hose him twice before I got there, but my trainer didn’t notice any swelling in his hock so told her no to cold hose it… sigh. The hock was still a little puffy and warm, but not as bad as…

Day 10 – How Your Friends/Family Feel About Your Riding

Day 10 – How Your Friends/Family Feel About Your Riding

I finally got to go out and see Simon last night for the first time since my Birthday, and got there to find him really, really lame.  I noticed in the cross ties he was resting his right hind waaaaaaaay more than the left, and when he would start to rest the left he immediately switched back to the right.  This horse is tough, so I was concerned.  I didn’t feel anything on the bottom of his right hind, but when…
