Why I’m Not Allowed to Use Draw Reins

Why I’m Not Allowed to Use Draw Reins

I’m not one of those crazy natural horsemanship bloggers that will stalk people’s blogs and write scathing comments the minute they pick up a martingale. YOU’RE CREATING A FALSE FRAME! YOU’RE RUINING YOUR HORSE! YOU’RE NOT RIDING LEG TO HAND AND YOU SUCK AND YOU’RE PROBABLY GOING TO DIE ALONE WITHOUT ANY PONIES THAT CAN GO PROPERLY ON THE CONTACT! I don’t like those people, and neither do others. Those people don’t typically get invited to parties, and I like…

An Inkling

An Inkling

I’ve had a little idea in my head lately that I haven’t been able to shake. Indulge me for a moment. Once upon a time, Jen J came over and played dressage with Simonpants. I was all, “Wow, you make him look fancy!” And she was all, “I know. I’m the coolest.” And I was all, “Wow. I look like a sack of potatoes!” It was fun, but then I was pretty much like, “Bye flatwork! Time to jump all…

A Post for Me About My Lesson

A Post for Me About My Lesson

This is not an exciting or insightful or funny or filled with pictures kind of post.  I hope to have more of those next week!  Instead, this is a post about my lesson for me. Simon Plays Dressage

Simon Plays Dressage

It’s been a busy time here in Austin with horse shows galore (and more coming up!) so I was happy to have a free morning where Jen of Wyvern Oaks and I could head to the barn together. Even though she’s been around Simon and heard quite a lot about Simon, she’s never actually ridden him.  It was time for that to change!  Plus, since she’s been rocking the dressage lately we took this as an opportunity to dress Simon…

Real Equine Professionals – Crystal

Real Equine Professionals – Crystal

I’ve known today’s interviewee for a long time.  What seems like a lifetime ago, we were trying to be brave enough to jump our horses over “the big coop” at the farm.  It was terrifying y’all, I promise!  She had an OTTB named Cookie and I had my wonderful Elvis. A lot has changed since then for both of us, and now Crystal manages a bustling farm and goes to some of the biggest dressage shows in the country –…

Photography Friday – Raleigh CDI Dressage

Photography Friday – Raleigh CDI Dressage

Though we all know I’m a hunter/jumper girl, I appreciate pretty much any kind of horse show with quality horses and riders.  So when my local fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC hosted a major dressage show several years ago – I checked it out. I really think hunter/jumper shows could do with a few more flags in the background.  It makes for a nice photo backdrop! Also, how do you dressage riders get your boots so shiny? Dude, seriously. How?
