Soundtrack of the Ponies – Simon’s Songs
Loved this post idea from Sprinkler Bandits, because songs and horses somehow go together more with me & Simon than any of my other horses previously.
Of course because I’m complicated, I can’t just pick one song for my horse.
When I decided Simon was “the one”, I realized I felt pretty instantly comfortable with him despite his greenness. I searched and searched for a show name, and probably would have chosen the title of this song, Somewhere Only We Know, if it weren’t so damn long.
This is probably the song that I consider “our song” if having a song with a horse isn’t perhaps the dorkiest thing I’ve ever written in my entire life. Actually, it is the dorkiest thing I’ve ever written… oh well.
Since “our song” was too long for a show name, I searched for a different one. I kept getting hung up on The Tower of Learning (Tower of Learning would be the show name), because it’s one of my favorite Rufus Wainwright songs. I still am not 100% convinced this shouldn’t be Simon’s show name… but the song is very slow/perhaps depressing and there’s literally no connection to his barn name or registered name or anything like that.
Finally, I started searching for something that had more real connection to Simonpants. Since he’s named… Simon, I went after Paul Simon songs. I’m not the biggest Paul Simon fan, but I do like his music. I searched song lists on the internet and concentrated on ones that started with “S” when I came across Something so Right.
“That’s it!” I thought, the perfect show name!
Then my husband informed me that this is probably the worst Paul Simon song ever written. Sigh.
No, it’s not the world’s best song but I like the lyrics. The kind of line up with our story a little bit, and how I have a tendency to focus on the negative more than the positive.
When something goes wrong
I’m the first to admit it
I’m the first to admit it
But the last one to know
when something goes right
Well it’s likely to lose me
It’s apt to confuse me
It’s such an unusual sight
I can’t get used to something so right
Something so right
So I think Simon’s show name and namesake song remind me to recognize the things that are right!

Yay! I’m glad my sad little blog hop made it’s way around to a few blogs! Love your song choices. I agree with you, music and ponies just go together and you can’t just pick one song.
Oh man, how did I miss this hop?! I love it and no, there is nothing dorky about having a song just for you and your horse. Are you kidding me? I have an album! 🙂 I love this.
Gah I can’t believe I missed this hop! I love it. Nothing dorky about having a special song for a special horse 😉
What a great hop idea, I missed it!! Henrys show name is after a song- Lifehouse’s All In 🙂
i kinda love ‘something so right’ as a show name – even without the back story. also, if isabel had a soundtrack, it’d be ‘fancy’ by iggy azalea lol
My trainer is a Bob Dylan fan so she named Hobbs Mr Tamborine Man
Wow, that music video of the Lily Allen song. I’m amazed. Damn, that’s awesome.
I think that’s an awesome show name! Maggie was just Maggie when I got her, but I picked out “Rain Dance Maggie” , which is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as her show name because it was on the radio a ton around the time I got her and it was catchy 🙂 the meaning of the song is totally sketch though lol, but I just ignore that
