I had a really nice weekend here in Austin. Took my first motorcycle ride ever, went for a nice long walk with the dogs today… all of which I’ll write about later this week. But a part of me is really wanting to be in Lexington, Kentucky right now for the World Equestrian Games. This is the best of the best world equestrian competition, more competitive than the Olympics and it’s a BIG DEAL for it to be held in the US this year. Of course, tickets were $700-$1,000 for the events I wanted to go to – and that’s just for one person and doesn’t include any travel expenses. So, I’ll be wishing I was there and living vicariously through a few of my lucky friend’s facebook updates.
Today Team USA brought home the first Olympic team gold medal in Reining. While this is certainly a great feat indeed, it should be noted that the US invented reining. You know, us being the origins of everything cowboy and Quarter Horse. Reining is also awesome, because it’s the only world class equestrian sport where all the top riders have a sizeable beer belly. Washing down a steak with a pint (or five) of a cold one is just part of a day on the ranch I guess, or all in a good night’s celebrating after a successful horse show.
