How to Celebrate the Sound Horse’s Birthday

How to Celebrate the Sound Horse’s Birthday

Simon’s birthday was the day I left for Wellington, so we didn’t get a chance to celebrate “properly” until last night. This time last year I was throwing a party hat on a lame horse, so the fact that I could get a few photos and then go for a ride was just splendid!

I warned my trainer that I was bringing birthday goodies for my horse, and even though she probably thought I was a crazy person… no one complains when there’s cookie cake!

I set up some horse and human goodies in the lounge.

Put Simon’s sparkly birthday hat on to see if he was going to tolerate it.  Since he’s used to being owned by a 12 year old girl trapped in an almost 30 adult body, he handled dress up very well. The hat would fall down often which surprised him, but true to Simon’s solid mentality he just kind of tossed his head and looked at me like I’m an idiot.

Which I may be, but I don’t care.

We smiled for photos and then went for a ride.  His birthday presents were jumping logs in our grass field (okay, that was a present for both of us) and day two of his PowerPak de-wormer.  Guess which present he preferred?

The ride was lovely, even though my eye was a little iffy at times.  Simon hopped over the logs like a champ, because this horse loves to jump.  Rides like the last few nights just remind me how wholly pleasant he is, and how lucky I am to have him.

Another birthday photo op is now officially recorded in the blog. 😉  I’m crossing that one off my 30 before 30 list!
