Last night I rode Zeke, who’s my trainer 18hh OTTB. He’s giant. We only did walk/trot because a) he’s giant and b) he’s scared of everything. He also seemed a little uncomfortable going to the right, and I wasn’t in the mood to push anything. Walk/trot is better than no ride at all! For today’s challenge post, I will attempt to critique a video.
I am no equitation expert or riding superstar. So it feels weird for me to critique famous (ie better than me) riders. However, fame is relative. Do y’all remember that Horse Power show that came on Animal Planet back in 2005? I was in college, but still obsessed over watching the episodes like a teeny bopper. To me, those girls are famous… and they’re also human. Okay, so maybe Brianne Goutal and Maggie McAlary are pretty much perfect – but while Chelsea Moss is a good rider, I can at least find something to critique with her.
Overall, Chelsea’s not a quiet rider like her co-stars Maggie and Brianne. She is doing an excellent job of sitting up though, and since I lean forward and jump ahead too much I can really appreciate that. She borderline chips into fence 2, but has good distances to the rest of the course. She seems like she’s doing a lot of driving with her seat – and I don’t know if the horse has a stop in him or if that’s just her style. Really, I just feel silly critiquing someone because I couldn’t go out there on a horse of a that caliber and do a better job if my life depended on it.
