Giveaway – Win a Custom Blog Logo

Giveaway – Win a Custom Blog Logo

I’m giddy with excitement for my upcoming vacation.  Every year, I go visit one of my best friends who grooms for a barn in Grand Prix Village in Wellington, FL.  It’s the most gorgeous, sunny, horsey perfect place on earth if you ask me.  Also, I had no concept of what wealth really was until I visited there.  It’s the 1% folks, for real. I won’t be blogging much from Thursday to Monday (April 1st), but be sure to follow…

Tall Boot Dilhemma

Tall Boot Dilhemma

I was talking with Kate over at Party Down! the other night about the topic of tall boots has been forbidden in my house. My husband is a patient listener of all things horse, but what I like to call the ‘great tall boot dilemma’ has been going on now for a year and he finally said enough is enough. Which means I am now turning to you, loyal readers, for advice.  You’re welcome. The Problem… Wide Calves, High Expectations,…

Elvis Turns 20

Elvis Turns 20

I talk a lot on this blog about Elvis, because more than any other horse he has shaped how I am as a rider and a person today. I owned him from high school through graduating from college, and sold him to a friend in a semi-retirement situation after college to pursue a nicer show horse… a nicer show horse that I ended up hating. Parts of me still regret selling Elvis, but in the end I do think it…

SWOTs Spring 2013

Thought this strength, weakness, opportunities and threat analysis I saw over at Viva Carlos was insightful and thought provoking, so wanted to post my own here.  Also, I leave for Wellington in 6 days and I’m starting to get stupid excited.  More about that tomorrow. Strengths Simon is a very good minded horse Tim is very supportive My job is stable and income level lets me do more this year My barn is full of friendly, supportive people I have…

Equestrian Jewelry from BaubleBar

Equestrian Jewelry from BaubleBar

I’m not a huge online shopper, but every now and then I get distracted by shiny objects and I feel the need to purchase them.  Usually, these shiny objects are really leather objects in the form of tack… but occasionally they truly are shiny – and they usually come from Bauble Bar. Bauble Bar is a flash sale/knockoff designer jewelry website that has free shipping, a constantly updated inventory, and good sales incentive to buy more and earn rewards.  While browsing today…

Life Before I Became a Hunter Snob

Life Before I Became a Hunter Snob

I believe I’ve mentioned before, but I ride at a pretty no thrills kind of barn.  Meaning, we see a lot of white plastic schooling helmets, nylon halters decorated with glitter puff paint, and my personal favorite – a fitted zebra fleece english pad. Fitted zebra people… fitted! Really I’m fine with all this, because the ugly white helmets are safe and the tye dye polka dot polo wraps are done correctly… so who cares?  I don’t care but I guess my…

My Pretend Texas Farm

My Pretend Texas Farm

It’s a rough week.  I’ve got a steady headache and sore throat, but my body will neither move into full fledged sickness nor heal itself and get on with life.  Also, the drama llama visited work.  I hate the drama llama. Instead of whining (which I can assure you I’m doing enough of outside the blog right now), I will show you what I’d do if I had $500k just hanging out and I could quit my job today. I want…

The Eq Diet

The Eq Diet

Fact: I am in better shape than I was one year ago. Also Fact: I have a long way to go. The “Eq Diet” is actually a really, really bad title for this post because I’m concerned about fitness, not weight.  Even though I need to lose weight, I’ve come to the realization fairly recently that… I’m not ugly.  I don’t look awful.  I’m not meant to be a size 2.  These are good things to realize for someone who…

Equestrian Blogs You Should Be Reading if You Aren’t

Equestrian Blogs You Should Be Reading if You Aren’t

Cross promoting in our little equestrian blog community is the theme this week! Viva Carlos and Equestrian at Hart both produced excellent lists of blogs this week, of which I found some new reads that I really like.  Though I’ve only been exclusively equestrian blogging for a short period of time, I’ve been reading and blogging for years.  This list has been a long time coming, and I hope you find some new reads on here! Most Inspirational – Viva…

How to Celebrate the Lame Horse’s Birthday

How to Celebrate the Lame Horse’s Birthday

I know, I know – it’s still birthday central around here.  That’s what you have to do when you can’t ride your horse… you dress him up! Yes, that is a crown.  Yes, it does have glitter.  Yes, it does say “Birthday Prince” You also stop to pose for pictures with your beloved ponykins, even though there is grain drool on your boob and it’s a bad hair day. You can try to feed him cupcakes, but there’s a good…

Happy Birthday Simon!

Happy Birthday Simon!

Simon’s 7th birthday is today!  I’m going to skip catch riding today, and instead just spend some quality time with him grooming and grazing at the barn.  There may even be a birthday hat and cupcakes involved… we’ll see! To celebrate my big beautiful boy, I am sharing my 7 favorite pictures of him.  Looking forward to getting more show shots later this year, and hoping to put all this lameness and rehab behind us soon.

Wordless Wednesday – Photos for Hunter/Jumper Lovers

Wordless Wednesday – Photos for Hunter/Jumper Lovers

I almost bit it last night, for real.  Was riding Winston, who is a horse that is really quite lovely and a solid citizen until something rocks his world at the canter.  He has hunter/jumper PTSO from years of a rider that has somewhat harsh hands, and will throw his head violently in the air with contact.  Last night we actually did some nice trot circles with him yielding to the inside rein and starting to relax in the poll –…
